Drug Dogs – hand-selected for intense search and strong passive alert.
At Southern Hills Kennels, our drug dogs go through realistic drug detection training.
We only use real drugs, not pseudo drug scents: vital for when K-9 officers are to testify their drug dog only hits on illegal substances.
Our dogs are taught to detect marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamines.
When a dog locates drugs, it will signal the find with a passive alert - an unassisted sit position.
When training narcotic dogs - informally known as sniffer dogs - we never allow them physical contact with the drugs; the dogs are trained only to detect the scent of the drugs.
We build each dog’s confidence with positive reward-based training. This ensures our narcotics dogs are always confident and eager in unfamiliar surroundings.
To hone the detection skills of both the dog and the drug dog handler, training is provided for searches in many realistic environments, including:
Because drug detection is not all about the searching, Southern Hills Kennels also incorporates training the drug dog handler in the required record keeping necessary for drug cases to stand up in court.
Testimonial: 380 lbs. of marijuana concealed in a compartment in the fuel tank on a charter bus. The marijuana was vacuum sealed, cellophane wrapped, and covered in ammonia. By the way, the dog is awesome!!!
